Pagney 26/10/2026

After the cold wind and rain of yesterday it was pleasant to be outside in the still, dry air. I started at Courchapon before the fog lifted to check a reedbed that had a wintering Cetti's Warbler last winter - I couldn't hear any this time.

Plenty of migration was happening at Pagney with all the birds that had been blocked by the weather making up for the lost time. Woodpigeons were estimated at 38,511 with some nice big flocks.  Twelve Stock Doves were picked out.

Cranes were on the move with 58 taking off from behind the gravel pit this morning disturbed by a hunter, they settled near the cemetery. Further groups of 27 and 17 in the afternoon brought the total to 102.

Eight Black-headed Gulls and two Marsh Harriers were seen. One or two Redwings went through and Brambling was heard a total of six times. Only eight Red Kites were noted.

Single Firecrests were at the Pouzet and the gravel pits at Marnay.
